My background is in engineering, though I have always had a passion for art. I love solving problems. Mechanical, psychological, artistic. I have suffered with my mental health for many years. It peaked when I became pregnant with my daughter. I suffered really horrific perinatal and postnatal depression, resulting in hospitalization for both me and my daughter. We had to fight social services to keep her, as they described me as an unfit mother. Thereafter came my passion for helping people through troubled times. I started volunteering everywhere that I could, but noticed a sheer lack of volunteering opportunities that were arty or crafty. Thus, Steffi’s Craft Box was born, aiming to create a crafting space for young and old and everyone in between, that provides opportunities for volunteers with mental health difficulties.
